The Worry Woos

The WorryWoo Monsters, a series by Andi Green, was first seen in a New York City art exhibition in 2001. Originally called The Monsters in My Head, Green wanted to create characters with a story that each embodied an emotion. Using her design and illustration background she built 5 light boxes, 24”X36” in size, each containing a monster with its story Xerox-transferred to the front of the box. From loneliness to confusion, she began tackling complicated feelings and transformed them into quirky, loveable characters. Her message of “embrace your emotions” received such a positive response, she was asked by many if she ever considered turning her single art pieces into storybooks. In 2002 she began to expand her concept, but it wasn’t until 2007 that she decided to publish and produce her new collection.

Recently, I had the opportunity to review one of the Worry Woo's and boy was I impressed:

This is Wince, The Monster of Worry can’t stop worrying! His worries are with him wherever he goes. If you have ever worried about anything, then maybe you can help. His big floppy ears are waiting for someone to share their feelings. Are you up to the job? No experience needed just a willingness to encourage Wince with lots of hugs!

What I find so adorable about Wince is his big floppy ears and his cute little belly button. His big green eyes and perfect wings were also a big hit!

Wince, The Monster of Worry also came along with a book:

Meet Wince, The Monster of Worry, and his number one nemesis, the WorryBug! In this engaging follow-up to The Monster Who Couldn’t Decide, Andi Green has created a whimsical adventure that brings another emotion to life. Join Wince as he discovers the secret to keeping his worries from getting monstrous. Using unique drawings and clever rhymes, Don’t Feed The WorryBug carries an insightful message that readers of all ages will enjoy! All WorryWoo books are printed with environmentally friendly soy inks.

The pictures are bright and very colorful. My son had a fun time reading the book and was in awe of the pictures.

If you have a little one that has fears or worrys, go check out Worry Woo's. They are a great idea to help kids overcome their problems. And let's face it, some of us adults could benefit from a Worry Woo ourselves. I can tell you, Wince will be hearing several of mine!
