Children’s Book Takes Families on an Cross-Generational Bonding, Educational, 'Then and Now' Trip through Time
Lori Stewart wanted to help children appreciate the amazing transformation the world has experienced in the past 100 years. So she came up with an innovative and fun way to contrast the WWII generation’s life and times to those of children today.
“Grandma, Aren’t You Glad the World’s Finally in Color Today!” is a rhyming picture book that takes children and their families on a ‘then and now’ journey through time.
Side by side pages filled with carefully selected vintage and full color photographs contrast fashion, schools, transportation, entertainment, technology, culture and the arts from the Great Depression and World War II years to those of today.
The colorful and well-illustrated book makes use of a numerous timelines spanning 100 years each highlighting well-known historical facts and fascinating bits of science, geography and technological trivia.
This book creates an opportunity for children and their elders to share and relate to each other’s past, present and the future, together.
“It gives parents and grandparents a wonderful way to start conversations
about ‘who we are and where we came from’,” Lori says.
“They can fulfill their role as family historians and it also gives them a
way to appreciate and connect with the colorful world of today’s children!”
