Our Story

It all started in the small bakery of a natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Founder Michael Smulders listened to his Celiac customers complain about the taste of many of the gluten free options available to them. He thought that no one should have to suffer because of a food allergy or other special dietary need, and made it his mission to create products that would make my customers happy.

Today, that mission has expanded to not only make our customers happy with great-tasting gluten free products, but spreading a little bit of happiness to everyone we meet and work with. The Bakery also like to encourage others to think about things that make them happy and to do something to make yourself, a family member, a friend or even a complete stranger happy.

Now our bakery is bigger, but we still bake in small batches. We hope you love our products as much as we love creating them for you.

Apple Cinnamon Soft and Chewy Bars
Made with real apples and cinnamon, it's like apple pie on the go - that just happens to be as good for you as it tastes...

Chocolate Almond Soft and Chewy Bars
Made with chopped almonds and topped with a generous amount of dark chocolate chips, this dessert, ahem, bar is just as good for you as it tastes..

Peanut Butter & Jelly Soft & Chewy Bars
Made with real peanut butter and dried strawberries, this bar will bring you back, or your kids will love that is tastes like their favorite lunchbox staple! And they'll never know how good for them it is...

Bakery on Main’s  new granola bars are billed as soft and chewy. They lived up to their label of Soft and Chewy and are quite pleasant in their texture. What about taste? Well, I sampled Chocolate Almond flavor first. I found it to be very enjoyable overall as an after-work snack. Another time I tried the Apple Cinnamon bar. The first bite yielded a fake type apple flavoring in my opinion, but the bar tasted more natural as I finished it. Again, strange. I saved the Peanut Butter and Jelly one for Son. He would have ate more if I would have let him.
