Award-winning entrepreneurs Holly Tucker and Sophie Cornish founded notonthehighstreet.com from a kitchen table in 2006. The table still exists (it’s in one of our meeting rooms). Their founding ideal is one that we stick to today: to hunt out the most original items from the best creative small businesses, and bring them together in one place, making it easy for people to browse and buy.

When we launched there were around 100 creative small businesses on board, many of them working from their own kitchen tables after a full day’s work. Now there are thousands, with more joining every week. And from a single room to an open-plan Modernist building in Richmond, south west London, the number of times we’ve outgrown offices (four, so far) shows how far we’ve come since that kitchen table. In the beginning, you could make tea for our entire staff from one kettle. Not any more – we’re now a team of over 120 people, all passionate about detail, design and discovery. As you can imagine, we get through a lot of kettles.

Is it wrong to say ‘everywhere’? Becoming one of the UK’s most exciting and fastest-growing e-commerce businesses is just the start of a very exciting journey. We want to make it easy for you to be original – wherever you live, and whatever you’re into. So that means we’ll always be on the lookout for new ideas, up-and-coming designers who are just starting their careers and innovative ways of making something unique, personal and beautiful. And we’ll always make it easy.
